How To Brush Your Teeth – Are You Doing It Wrong?

If you brush your teeth, yet you continue to see stains or a darker smile than you’d expect, this isn’t necessarily due to just how to brush your teeth. There may be other factors such as lifestyle and diet. Although, how to brush your teeth is still fundamental. This is because if you’re not doing so, you’re opening the door for oral health problems. For example, the dentist would recommend that you brush your teeth at a 45-degree angle towards the gums. The gums are just as important as the teeth. If you do not brush against the gums, the bacteria present in and around the gums will cause dental plaque build-up and weaker gums and this can lead to suffering from Gingivitis.

Therefore, brushing your gums is just as important. Below are the right steps detailing how to brush your teeth.

  1. When holding the toothbrush, aim it at a 45-degree angle towards the gum line
  2. Place the toothbrush between the teeth and gums
  3. Move your brush gently in a circular motion against the teeth
  4. Push your brush back to the molars and inside surfaces and repeat the same motion
  5. Brush the chewing surfaces gently back and forth
  6. Repeat for a full period of two minutes.

When brushing, you should ensure you brush your gum line to protect the mouth from bacteria build-up as well as your teeth. Bacteria can appear anywhere in the mouth, and keeping all contours of the mouth clean doesn’t just include your teeth.
